presents a selection of projects undertaken by designers at their own initiative. In each case, the work has been made without the involvement of a client or a commission. The examples featured in the exhibition have been produced during the past five years, and demonstrate a broad range of interests and techniques, as well as a variety of media, including print, typography, curatorial work and exhibition design, interactive projects, web pages and essays. More importantly, though, the work on display shares a certain autonomy that can seem quite alien to conventional client-based design practice.
